Dearly Beloved,

April was a great month! On the first day of the month, the day they call “Fools Day,” I got to baptize my 9-yr-old grandson in Alvin, Texas. What a day! I pray this is one of many good decisions he will make but none will be more important. The following Sunday was Easter, and oh what a day. I know numbers are not everything, but 3,000 men, women, boys and girls in our worship services was thrilling. The next weekend, I got to spend Friday and Saturday with my oldest son and oldest grandson on Lake Conroe fishing. We did catch some fish, but you can’t measure that time together by fish.

Last week, I had an unexpected opportunity to visit with our friend, David Crain. You may recall that David provided our Senior Adult Banquet programs in 2009 and 2011. I was also privileged to meet his 94-yr-old mother. Please pray for David’s wife, Betty. She was diagnosed with breast cancer after he was here last summer. Betty had radical surgery in October and is still receiving treatments.

Speaking of Senior Adult Banquet, make sure you have Tuesday, August 28th, reserved on your calendar. That is the date for our 2012 banquet, and Dr. Dennis Swanberg will be our very special guest. I don’t think Dennis is an Orthopedic doctor, but I am sure he will make all kinds of adjustments to a lot of funny bones. You will not want to miss this! Get ready to invite your friends and buy your tickets as soon as they are available.

We do, however, have some things going on before August. On May 17, the week following Mother’s Day, we will take a group to Latham Springs for Senior Adult Day. We will leave the church around 7:45am and return around 4:00pm. The cost is $7 and will include a Continental breakfast, lunch, and great morning and afternoon programs. Call Karen soon to sign up to join us.

June, of course, is VBS time...the week of June 11-15. If you have not already volunteered to help, give Barbra or one of her associates a call. After a few days breather, we are heading to Eagle Nest, New Mexico on a mission trip. We will probably stay in nearby Angel Fire and work at Eagle Nest Baptist Church. We will be doing some exterior painting and all the preparation work that goes with that. We have not worked out all the details, but we may hold worship services in the evenings. There are several lodging options, and we will try to keep the cost down as much as possible. There will also be scholarships available. Please pray about joining us on this trip. We will bless the church and people of Eagle Nest, and I can assure you, we will be blessed and have a great time of fellowship in the process.

April has also had its sadness. As I write this letter Tuesday, April 24, I am preparing to officiate the funeral service for Mary Laney. Mary and her husband, Wylie, have attended our Senior Adult Banquet for the last several years. The Laneys have been residents of Royal Manor Rehab for several years, and for five or more years, Mary has been our pianist for our worship there on Wednesdays. Mary was a dear Christian lady, and we will miss her.

My sincere wishes for all of our wonderful great-grandmothers, grandmothers and mothers during this special month of “Mother’s Day.”

Blessings to all,
Bro. Jim
