At FBC Woodway, missions is more than a line-item in our budget. A portion of the general funds our church receives from our members’ tithes and other offerings go directly to activities traditionally understood as “missions.” However, a few years ago we decided to create a fund outside our budget to which we ask our members to give that supports the bulk of our "missions" endeavors. This is at least partly because we see all that we do as being a participation in God’s mission; to distinguish “missions” in our budget from pastoral care or children’s ministry or facilities is to say that we think some things we do are mission-oriented and others are not. But we believe that any activity we take part in is a function of our missional identity.
That said, we remain committed to many things here in McLennan County and around the world which have traditionally been called “missions.” These activities focused on things such as area- and world-hunger, poverty, community development, and international mission trips cost money. We don’t want to put a cap on what our church will give toward these external efforts, so we maintain an open call to our church to give financially toward FBC Woodway’s work here and around the world. The money given explicitly to missions at FBC Woodway enables us to continue to move toward our world with the love and grace of Jesus. Our church family continues to give generously above and beyond their regular contributions toward our work in McLennan County and beyond.
If you want to give toward these efforts, put the amount of your gift on the MISSIONS line on the giving envelope. If writing a check, make payable to "FBC Woodway" and write "Global Missions" in the check memo line.
